Ayurvedic PCOS Treatment in Dubai
PCOS and PCOD care by a female Ayurvedic doctor, with a female GP for tests, in Jumeirah 1
PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome, also called PCOD) is a common hormonal condition that can cause irregular periods, weight gain, acne, excess hair growth and hair thinning. At RamaCare Polyclinic in Jumeirah 1, Dubai, our female GP arranges the hormone and blood-sugar tests that confirm PCOS, and our female Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Shamna Keloth Meethal (BAMS), plans herbal medicines, therapies such as Virechana or Basti, and a PCOS diet. Ayurvedic care usually runs over at least three to six menstrual cycles, alongside your medical care. Consultations start from AED 200.

Ayurvedic PCOS care is complementary and does not replace medical or fertility treatment. Do not stop the pill, metformin or other prescribed medicines without your doctor's advice. Results vary. Provided at a DHA-licensed polyclinic (licence 2036418).
Understanding PCOS and PCOD in Ayurveda
What Is PCOS (PCOD) in Ayurveda?
PCOS is a hormonal condition in which the ovaries produce more androgens (male-type hormones) than usual, often with irregular ovulation. Ayurveda links it to Kapha and Vata imbalance, weak digestion (Agni) and Ama blocking the channels of the reproductive system, and to Artava Kshaya, reduced or irregular menstruation.

Quick Facts
Common PCOS Symptoms
PCOS affects each woman differently. The most common signs are irregular or missed periods, weight gain around the waist, acne, excess facial or body hair, and thinning scalp hair. It is often linked to insulin resistance.
Insulin Resistance
Many women with PCOS process sugar less efficiently, which can drive weight gain, cravings and higher androgen levels. Ayurveda links this to Kapha and weak Agni.
Irregular Periods
Ovulation that is irregular or absent leads to late, scanty or missed periods (Artava Kshaya in Ayurveda).
Weight Gain
Weight around the waist is common, and even a modest weight loss often helps cycles and symptoms.
Acne, Excess Hair and Hair Thinning
Higher androgens can cause acne, facial or body hair and thinning scalp hair. Our dermatologist can help alongside Ayurvedic care.
Stress and Poor Sleep
Stress and irregular sleep can worsen cycles and cravings; Ayurveda relates this to Vata.
Sedentary Routine
Long desk hours, little activity and the summer heat make regular exercise harder in Dubai.
How RamaCare Approaches PCOS
Our female GP confirms PCOS with hormone and blood-sugar tests and rules out other causes such as thyroid problems. Our female Ayurvedic doctor then plans herbal medicines, therapies, diet and routine changes, which work alongside any medicines you already take.
Cycle Support
Herbal medicines, diet and routine changes traditionally used to support more regular cycles. We track your cycles together at each follow-up.
Metabolic & Weight Management
Our treatment plans target insulin resistance, support healthy weight management, and improve energy balance.
Planning a Pregnancy
If you are trying to conceive, Ayurvedic care can support general health alongside your gynaecologist or fertility specialist, who manages fertility treatment.
Stress Management & Emotional Wellbeing
Stress and anxiety can worsen PCOS symptoms.
Diet & Lifestyle Guidance
Personalized nutrition plans and lifestyle modifications help maintain hormonal balance, optimize metabolism, and prevent symptom recurrence.
Ayurvedic Herbal Medicines
Examples include Shatavari, Kanchanar Guggulu, Triphala and Ashoka, prescribed by Dr. Shamna according to your assessment.
Skin and Hair
For acne and hair thinning, Ayurvedic care can be combined with our Ayurvedic skin and hair fall services and our dermatologist. Read our Ayurvedic diet for skin and hair.
What to Expect
Changes in cycles, weight and skin are gradual and vary from woman to woman. Your progress is reviewed each month, and your GP can repeat tests when needed.
How Is PCOS Diagnosed? Tests With Our Female GP
PCOS is usually diagnosed when at least two of these are present, after other causes such as thyroid problems are ruled out:
PCOS Types: Medical and Ayurvedic Views
| Classic PCOS | Irregular periods with signs of higher androgens (acne, excess hair), often with insulin resistance and weight gain. Ayurveda usually sees Kapha predominance. |
|---|---|
| Ovulatory PCOS | Regular periods but higher androgens and polycystic ovaries. Acne and hair concerns are common; Ayurveda often relates these to Pitta. |
| Milder (non-androgenic) PCOS | Irregular periods and polycystic ovaries without high androgen signs. Ayurveda often relates thin, irregular cycles to Vata. |
Ayurvedic Therapies and Herbs Used for PCOS
| Virechana | Supervised therapeutic purgation (a Panchakarma therapy), traditionally used to clear Pitta and Kapha. |
|---|---|
| Basti | Medicated enema therapy, the classical Panchakarma therapy for Vata, often used for menstrual irregularity in Ayurveda. See Basti therapy in Dubai. |
| Udwarthanam | Herbal powder massage traditionally used in Kapha and weight-management plans. |
| Nasya and Shirodhara | Traditionally used to calm stress and Vata, which can affect cycles. |
| Herbal medicines | Examples include Shatavari, Kanchanar Guggulu, Triphala and Ashoka, prescribed by Dr. Shamna according to your type and health. |
